4.7.16. logcat
logcat is a tool used to read and display system logs, supporting multiple log buffers (such as log_main, log_system, log_radio, etc.), and can filter log output based on user-specified filtering rules.
4.7.16.1. Syntax Description
Below is the help information for executing logcat:
Usage: logcat [options] [filterspecs]
options include:
-s Set default filter to silent. Like specifying filterspec '*:s'
-f <filename> Log to file. Default to stdout
-r [<kbytes>] Rotate log every kbytes. (16 if unspecified). Requires -f
-n <count> Sets max number of rotated logs to <count>, default 4
-v <format> Sets the log print format, where <format> is one of:
brief process tag thread raw time threadtime long
-c clear (flush) the entire log and exit
-d dump the log and then exit (don't block)
-t <count> print only the most recent <count> lines (implies -d)
-g get the size of the log's ring buffer and exit
-b <buffer> Request alternate ring buffer, 'main', 'system', 'radio'
or 'events'. Multiple -b parameters are allowed and the
results are interleaved. The default is -b main -b system.
-B output the log in binary
filterspecs are a series of <tag>[:priority]
where <tag> is a log component tag (or * for all) and priority is:
V Verbose
D Debug
I Info
W Warn
E Error
F Fatal
S Silent (suppress all output)
'*' means '*:d' and <tag> by itself means <tag>:v
If not specified on the commandline, filterspec is set from ANDROID_LOG_TAGS.
If no filterspec is found, filter defaults to '*:I'
If not specified with -v, format is set from ANDROID_PRINTF_LOG or defaults to "brief"
4.7.16.2. Parameter Options Description
-s: Set the default filter to silent mode (*:s), i.e., do not display any logs.
-f
: Output logs to a specified file instead of standard output. -r [
]: Automatically rotate the log file every specified kilobytes (default is 16KB). Requires the -f parameter. -n
: Set the maximum number of rotated log files, default is 4. -v
: Set the log output format, possible values include: brief: Brief format, displaying timestamp, priority, and tag.
process: Display process information.
tag: Display only the tag.
thread: Display thread information.
raw: Raw log format.
time: Display timestamp.
threadtime: Display thread timestamp.
long: Long format, displaying detailed information.
-c: Clear (flush) the entire log buffer and exit.
-d: Dump the log to standard output and then exit (non-blocking).
-t
: Print only the most recent lines (implies -d). -g: Get the size of the log buffer and exit.
-b
: Request an alternate log buffer, options include main, radio. The -b parameter can be used multiple times, and results will be interleaved. Default is -b log_main -b log_radio. The log system supports one 2MB log_main buffer and one 256KB log_radio buffer; it is recommended to use the log_main buffer.
Logs with LOG_TAG as “HTC_RIL”, “RIL”, “IMS”, “AT”, “GSM”, “STK”, “CDMA”, “PHONE”, “SMS” are saved to the log_radio buffer; all others are saved to the log_main buffer.
-B: Output logs in binary format.
filterspecs: Filtering rules, in the format
[:priority]. Here, is the log component tag (or * for all), and priority is the log priority: V: Verbose
D: Debug
I: Info
W: Warn
E: Error
F: Fatal
S: Silent (suppress all output)
If no filtering rule is specified, it will be read from the environment variable ANDROID_LOG_TAGS; if none is found, the default is *:I.
