12.5.1. Development Board Kit¶
The J5 OE version is available for all Journey 5 hardware environments, including J5 EVM and Matrix 5 domain control platform.
12.5.1.1. J5 EVM¶
12.5.1.1.1. Overview¶
Horizon Journey 5 Evaluation Development Kit (J5 EVM Kit) is a development platform based on Horizon’s latest generation of high-capacity auto-grade processor, Journey 5.
Equipped with 8-core Cortex-A55 CPU cluster and dual-core Vision DSP, the BPU computing power reaches up to 128 TOPS. J5 platform provides rich external interfaces with ingestion capacities of more than 16 channels of HD video input, supports multi-channel 8MP@30fps image input and processing, and supports PCIe 3.0, 2-lane Gigabit Ethernet, 4-lane CANFD, HDMI, SPI, UART, I2S, I2C, etc.
It can be used for processor algorithm evaluation, software algorithm development, and other development scenarios, and can meet the development of passenger cars, commercial vehicles, L4 low-speed unmanned vehicles and other autonomous driving products, and helps users to rapidly introduce and implement their products.

Journey 5 EVM Kit consists of a motherboard and a daughter board, connected via board-to-board connectors.
The motherboard is used as the core board, which integrates the J5 processor, LPDDR4, eMMC, power module, Ethernet peripherals, CAN peripherals, USB interfaces, SD card slots, PCIE card slots, etc.

12.5.1.1.4. Assembly¶
12.5.1.1.4.1. Serial Cable Installation¶
The development board is equipped with a micro-USB Type-B interface, which is convenient for you to debug the development board online using the serial assistant on the PC using the USB cable.
To connect the serial cable:
Connect the Type-B end of the USB cable to the dev board.
Connect the other end of the USB cable to the PC.
The completed development board with the motherboard and serial cable installed is shown below:

12.5.1.1.4.2. Driver Installation¶
The USB interface of the development board uses the FT4232 processor(UART to USB), you need to confirm whether the corresponding driver is installed before using it.
If not installed, follow the link below to download and install the driver: Driver installation address.
12.5.1.1.4.3. Power-on Confirmation¶
First launch the serial port tool on the PC and connect the cable to the serial port of the development board, the serial port tool configuration method can be found in the section of Serial/Network Port Connection Software and the Serial Console in “J5 Platform System Software User Manual”. Then connect the 12V power supply to the development board, if the debug serial port synchronously outputs the log information and enters the login interface, it means that the installation is successful.
If the serial port does not output log information, follow the steps below for troubleshooting:
Check whether the USB cable connection is loose.
Check whether the PC side serial port tool is properly configured.
Check whether the motherboard power LED lights up.
12.5.1.2. Matrix 5¶
Matrix 5 is a series of mass-production computing platform reference designs built on Journey 5. With different processor configurations, Matrix 5 is able to provide high BPU computing power up to 512 TOPS, which meets the needs of ADAS, autonomous driving, intelligent cockpit and other full-scene whole-vehicle intelligent applications.
Hardware partners can create flexible and scalable domain control designs based on Matrix 5 standard design solutions.
Horizon provides pre-validated camera module kit options to support seamless adaptation to Horizon system software and perception algorithm modules.
Horizon J5 OpenExplorer supports J5 on-processor model deployment in Matrix 5 domain control form.
